Michael Jackson may go to Grammys

Rumours are swirling in Los Angeles that Michael Jackson will make an appearance at the Grammys on February 10, two days before the release of his 25th anniversary 'remake' of Thriller, still pop's biggest selling album ever, having sold more than 104m copies worldwide over a quarter of a century. Whether Jackson will really show up – and overshadow every other performer invited - or whether it's a marketing ploy by Sony to drum up interest in the Thriller remake, remains to be seen. What is definite is that the Grammys will now go ahead as normal following a deal struck between the striking Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Recording Academy which runs the Grammys.

It was agreed last week that striking writers would not picket the
music awards, but the WGA and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) were pressuring Grammy invitees who work as actors as well as singers to stay at home. This has now been resolved and the likes of Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Queen Latifah are cleared to attend.

Acts lined up top perform at the Grammys include Carrie Underwood, Aretha Franklin, the Foo Fighters, John Paul Jones, Rihanna and a reunion from funk group the Time. As for the likely winners, Kanye West leads all Grammy nominees this year, with eight nods. Amy Winehouse is the other top nominee, with six. Winehouse has said she intends to attend, despite question marks over her visa and the status of her rehab efforts.

With the Grammys getting the go-ahead, all eyes turn to the Oscars. For now, Academy Award organisers insist the show won't be stopped, but the WGA has signaled no intention of granting a waiver, as it did to the Recording Academy, and SAG has said actors won't be crossing any picket lines. Hollywood's biggest night of the year remains in serious doubt.

Michael Jackson rumoured for Grammy slot
There's also talk of a Super Bowl appearance
By: News Desk
Michael Jackson is being tipped for a surprise appearance at next month's Grammy Awards.

With rumours of an possible live residency at the 02 Arena in London planned this year, as well as recent reports that the pop superstar is set to make a remarkable live comeback at the Super Bowl in March, a live comeback at this year's Grammy Awards seems a definite possibility.

Jackson releases the 25th anniversary edition of 'Thriller' on February 11th, just one day after the awards ceremony, and according to a 'leaked' memo at his record label Sony, the Grammy Awards are the chosen venue for Jackson to begin his comeback.

yeah it would be a nice surprise if he showed up. but to me, an unlikely one.

the talks about the all star tribute to thriller sound good. An MJ cameo at the end would top it off. Like i said, doesnt seem likely. Who knows. MJ reckons theres plenty more to come from him.

oh i forgot about Thriller & Off The Wall being inducted into Grammy Hall of Fame... thats much bigger and more exciting than T25. I think there is high possibility of him being there.. i mean when inducted into Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame he had a broken foot and was on crotches and still managed to go and accept the induction and made a speech... "There will be no moonwalking tonight" is what he said hahahaha.

Michael Jackson at the Grammy Awards:
Gotta glove it!

Tuesday, February 5th 2008, 4:00 AM

Michael Jackson will appear on the 50th anniversary Grammy Awards show, we hear, but he has vowed not to perform.

The Gloved One appears to have won a stare-down with the Grammy-givers at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. For weeks, show producer Ken Ehrlich has been mulling the idea of marking the 25th anniversary of Jackson's "Thriller" album with a revue that would feature guest stars from his rereleased blockbuster, which drops two days after the Feb. 10 broadcast.

The medley number would include Will.i.am (on "The Girl Is Mine"), Fergie (on "Beat It"), and possibly Kanye West (on "Billie Jean") and Akon (on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'").

Ehrlich said he'd do the tribute only if Jackson sang and danced, say insiders. "Michael can't go along with that," says a source. "He needs more time to rehearse new versions of the songs. And everything requires new choreography."

Now, we hear, Ehrlich has agreed to having Jackson just appear onstage - apparently believing viewers will tune in just to see what Jacko looks like now.

Grammy reps and Jackson spokeswoman Lois Najarian didn't get back to us. But word is Jackson is saving his moves for a show where he'll make some money - a "Thriller" TV special and a series of concerts.
