damien 24th March 2008, 03:09 PM Thriller is no 10. where i live but i went into 3 different shops and there all at diferent chart no.s how on earth did they get so many lol
Different stores will base their rankings on how many copies that company shifted for the week.
For example a few weeks back in Sanity Music Australia Thriller25 was the #1 selling album for the week because when all the Sanity stores submit their data Thriller25 was the top selling album from their personal stocks...H owever in Sunflower Music and Virgin music it was at #2. Same deal. That week MJ was #3 on the ARIA album charts.
You would think that having album in #1 and #2 places in record stores Australia wide it would make him #1 or 2 on the charts, not #3, but they also factor in iTunes sales which has been dropping. I guess this just means MJ sells ALOT of physical copies:)
Matt 26th March 2008, 07:37 PM That's awesome! Thanks for posting it! :D
Even though the majority of them fell, it's amazing to see that he still remains in the charts, especially 'Number Ones', 3 years after his release! :D

Marni 4th May 2008, 11:47 AM Really dramatic slips this week, which is disappointing, but it has had an AMAZING response in Australia!
damien 4th May 2008, 03:09 PM yeah considering all promo stopped like a week after it hit stores the fact that it has taken this long to fade is amazing. you have to remember its been 3months and in that time ALOT of OTHER new records have come out, which will get the majority of sales. At least people are still buying this record, even if its not in overly impressive amounts:)

Actually yesterday I heard at KMart WBSS08 and I never heard MJ once but the radio DJ said it was MJ. I just laughed to myself. Akon sings and MJ gets all the credit...and so he should!
Marni 23rd May 2008, 04:54 AM That's amazing! that's the first I've heard.
Still, the physical sales are better than I imagined- it's still number 38 on the physical singles chart. Plus WBSS has been in the top 50 singles chart for 16 weeks- that's 4 months- which is really good!

EssenceOfMagic 31st August 2008, 01:55 PM thanks Ave. Nice jump there!
Today day I saw MJ50 at #9 at Target (going my in-store sales I assume)
Marni 31st August 2008, 02:03 PM Awesome! I wonder if KOP will chart!
EssenceOfMagic 31st August 2008, 02:12 PM I doubt it'll do too well but I reckon it'll enter the charts soon. They've been advertising it in shop catalogues and Sanity's current commercial featured it (while playing DSTYGE) as the theme music :)
staller 1st September 2008, 09:46 AM ^^ I just saw that ad today! Woooo Go Mike! Im not sure if it'll do well or not, I'm pretty sure most people are kinda sick of the "best of" type albums so.... But fans will buy it. (such as myself...:D and many others on MaxJ) haha woooo :p
AVERMAN 1st September 2008, 11:20 AM I got sick of these stupid "Greatest Hits" collections 4 years ago when Ultimate Collection came out.
EssenceOfMagic 1st September 2008, 01:20 PM ^ yet you still bought Mj50 even after proclaiming a few months ago that you would not be purchasing any of his cds until the new album came out? ;)
AVERMAN 1st September 2008, 02:51 PM ^ yet you still bought Mj50 even after proclaiming a few months ago that you would not be purchasing any of his cds until the new album came out? ;)
KOP has unreleased material, and my Number Ones CD is scratched. If it bothers you, I can go take it back.
EssenceOfMagic 1st September 2008, 11:55 PM no, no. Just saying :)
AVERMAN 7th September 2008, 10:57 AM The chart updates for the week of Monday 8th September 2008 are as follows...
* King Of Pop debuts at #5 on the Albums chart (#4 physical)
* Number Ones remains at #12 on the Music DVD chart.
* Live In Bucharest - The Dangerous Tour re-enters the Music DVD chart at #35.
EssenceOfMagic 7th September 2008, 01:11 PM HAHAHAAA OMG KOP is at a #5 debut...let alone being on the charts at all!
Doing surprisingly, amazingly well!
It was at #9 at my local Target and #1 at my local Big W :wild:
damien 7th September 2008, 01:23 PM yeah #5 is a fantastic debut.. ESPECIALLY considering it was released Australia wide on a FRIDAY (to coincide with 29th Aug - MJs birthday - meaning all day one sales did NOT count to this week's charts)
Jarissy 7th September 2008, 01:26 PM yeah #5 is a fantastic debut.. ESPECIALLY considering it was released Australia wide on a FRIDAY (to coincide with 29th Aug - MJs birthday - meaning all day one sales did NOT count to this week's charts)
I agree. All Day Sales?
EssenceOfMagic 7th September 2008, 01:48 PM ^ they don't start sales count until Saturdays, so KOP's charting number excludes the amount sold on the Friday...Meaning it must have sold more than counted.
damien 7th September 2008, 01:51 PM I agree. All Day Sales?
day one.
record sales are Sat - Sat
Mj's Bday 29 Aug was a Fri and most record stores released it Friday
Therefor any record sold on Friday did NOT count towards this weeks chart position.
This #5 spot is based on Sat 30 Aug - Sat 6 Sept sales.
Fri 29 Aug sales are excluded, meaning it would have probably charted even HIGHER if record stores released it on the proper day.
EssenceOfMagic 7th September 2008, 01:53 PM ^ yah. Same thing happened with T25.
Jarissy 7th September 2008, 01:55 PM Why did they exclude friday? just because most stores didnt release it on that day?
Jesus, thats stupid.
damien 7th September 2008, 01:59 PM Why did they exclude friday? just because most stores didnt release it on that day?
Jesus, thats stupid.
they excluded fridays sales because friday is before saturday lol.
anything sold BEFORE the "Official" release date (Aug 30) is NOT counted in this weeks chart. It was counted for LAST weeks chart.
not stupid, just how things work:) its the record stores fault, but doesnt really matter either way. sales totals are still the same, only thing this effects are chart positions:)
Jarissy 7th September 2008, 02:08 PM ^^ I get you now.
I have a lot to learn, and im still young lol.
But, why cant people just stick to the official date and stop screwing the charts up!
damien 7th September 2008, 02:50 PM ^^ I get you now.
I have a lot to learn, and im still young lol.
But, why cant people just stick to the official date and stop screwing the charts up!
its all about the record stores wanting to sell more copies and make more money. if they release a day early, people will buy from them... thats the theory... they have no regard for the charts.
EssenceOfMagic 7th September 2008, 03:04 PM ^ plus it was actually Michael's 50th on the 29th friday so it makes sense.
damien 7th September 2008, 03:09 PM ^ plus it was actually Michael's 50th on the 29th friday so it makes sense.
yep:)
id rather release on his Bday. who cares about the chart position. sales are still the same...
ALTHOUGH... would have been nice to say MJ had another "#1 album" in Australia haha.... but end of the day who cares:)
Jarissy 7th September 2008, 06:26 PM yep:)
id rather release on his Bday. who cares about the chart position. sales are still the same...
ALTHOUGH... would have been nice to say MJ had another "#1 album" in Australia haha.... but end of the day who cares:)
It should care because, we're his fans, we're the ones who should be supporting him and getting his #1 status. Besides if we do, we could get another message from him about that, and that should put-forward his album because it just lets him know that fans still care about him.
damien 7th September 2008, 11:55 PM like i said, album will sell the same amount of copies, just wont chart in the same place. no biggie:) its a sony release anyways, not a MJ one, so im sure he isnt really fussed what happens with it. he didnt want to celebrate his 50th.
Marni 8th September 2008, 12:34 AM The chart updates for the week of Monday 8th September 2008 are as follows...

cheers brother
another really good week DVD wise. that disappoints me only because Number Ones is such a pathetic dvd. Crap quality and no special features. Would be nice to have that one re-issued as a double disc including The One documentry and "making of's" of the music videos... and have it re-mastered to respectable quality for the modern day and age we live in.
EssenceOfMagic 28th September 2008, 01:01 PM ^ yeah it's a pity but it being really simplistic makes it cheaper>>more sales.
Thanks Ave!

That's awesome- and the bit about Andre- it should also be mentioned, he likes Michael Jackson. In an interview in Australia, when someone said "classical music is the only good music" or something and he said "that's not true, take Michael Jackson for example- he's amazing". (something like that)
