MICHAEL JACKSON’S 3-D ‘EARTH SONG’ PREVIEW

27th January 2010

A 30-second clip from Michael Jackson's never-before-released 3-D movie for "Earth Song" has been released. The movie was intended to air during Jackson's This Is It tour and will now be played at the Grammy Awards on January 31 during a tribute to the late King of Pop.

The clip appeared on the Grammys YouTube page, and in it a little girl frolics in a jungle paradise filled with butterflies and greenery while Jackson's song plays. More footage from the 3-D film will be shown on Sunday during a tribute by Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion and Smokey Robinson.

"To try and imitate him, to try and represent him, it just didn't feel to me like it was something we should do with one of those songs that you just don't ever necessarily want to see anybody but Michael doing," Grammy co-executive producer Ken Ehrlich said in a conference call about the tribute. "'Beat It,' 'Billie Jean' or so many of the others. This felt to us like it was really a way of representing him.

It's like a tip of the hat. This song was so important to him."

A portion of the "Earth Song" footage will be shown at the Grammys, but it will not contain images of Jackson, only his voice. "It starts out with some beautiful images of the world and our environment, and Michael's childlike love for animals and birds and dolphins," Ehrlich said.

"It introduces a little girl, a beautiful little girl who at one point in the film basically goes to sleep, and when she wakes up — she's in a forest and it's very pastoral — and when she wakes up, all of a sudden it's all changed and it's bad. The environment is being affected and trees are being cut down."

CBS, which airs the Grammy Awards, has teamed up with Target to provide free 3-D glasses to those who want to view the footage in 3-D at home. They will be available January 24 through January 31 at Target stores. This is the first time an awards show has broadcast a segment in 3-D.

INTERVIEW WITH JASMINE ‘EARTH GIRL’ ALVERAN

27th January 2010

http://www.younghollywood.com/images/stories/jasmine.jpg

Very few people get a chance to meet a legend, but Jasmine Alveran got to work with one of the biggest—Michael Jackson!

Michael Jackson handpicked Jasmine to play the part of Earth Girl in his 2009 tour—that’s her holding the earth at the end of the movie. The This Is It tour was supposed to hit London, but Michael’s untimely death on June 25th ended the tour before it began. Instead, the behind-the-scenes preparations were turned into the hit movie, This Is It.

“Some people don’t get the opportunity to be with Michael on stage,” says Jasmine. “It was great to meet him—he was very friendly.”

Jasmine didn’t have a lot of acting experience before she landed the role of Earth Girl, but her enthusiasm and easy-going disposition make it easy to see why Michael would choose her. “I have a very outgoing, friendly personality,” laughs the cheery second-grader. Was she a Michael fan before the show? “Oh yes, I have lots of favorite Michael Jackson songs,” she says. Jasmine names Thriller and Smooth Criminal as some personal favourites.

Jasmine has been refining her acting craft since the wrap of This Is It. Her favorite part of acting class is the warm-ups. “You just have to pretend there’s an imaginary ball in your hand—you make a noise when you throw it and when you catch it!”

Jasmine also spends time working on her fancy footwork. “When I first started [with the This Is It tour], I met the dancers and they were very nice,” Jasmine says. She was so inspired by MJ’s dancers that she signed up for hula classes! But as much as she loves shaking her hips, acting is still her first love. “I had lots of fun getting ready for that!” Jasmine says of the This Is It premiere. “I like that part of [the job] a lot!”

I'm torn between watching this or not. I don't like the majority of the nominees and you know they will air this late.
